November 2023

Watford Football Club has a rich history of serving its community, and this commitment was further solidified in April 2004 with the establishment of the Watford FC Community Sports and Education Trust. The Trust was created not only to promote active participation in sports and events but also to address a wide range of social issues within the local community.

One of the standout initiatives from the Trust is the Man On! programme. This sports-based mental wellbeing initiative is designed specifically to support men aged 18 and over in managing their mental health through physical activity and open conversation. Launched in 2018, Man On! was developed in response to the alarming rise in suicide rates among men, as well as the persistent stigma and barriers that often prevent men from seeking help for mental health issues. The programme combines physical activity with a conversation café, creating a safe and supportive environment where men can engage in discussions about mental health, share their experiences, and receive encouragement from peers.

In November 2023, Whitestar was proud to participate in the Man On! International Men’s Day Football Tournament. Our team members showed great dedication and skill, successfully qualifying out of their group and playing a hard-fought semi-final that ended in a 1-1 draw. Although we narrowly missed advancing due to penalties, the experience was incredibly rewarding, and our team left the field with heads held high. The tournament was not just about competition – it was a meaningful event that brought awareness to an important cause.

At Whitestar, we firmly believe that integrating social and environmental considerations into our business practices is essential for creating shared value. We are committed to supporting initiatives like Man On! that align with our values and contribute to the wellbeing of our team, our clients, and our broader community. Participating in the Man On! programme is just one of the ways we strive to make a positive impact, and we look forward to continuing our support for such vital causes in the future.
